Housing for people with disabilities gets boost in Illinois through $6M in grants July 1, 2014

People with disabilities will have more housing options in four communities as a result of over $6 million in grants for two Home First Illinois (HFI) projects. About $3.9 million in funding for wheelchair accessible duplexes on eight lots in Peoria’s East Bluff neighborhood is coming from the Illinois Housing Development Authority, the Illinois attorney general and the city of Peoria.

IFF loans, along with a $2.58 million IHDA grant, will cover the cost of rehabbing 10 group homes for 40 people in the Chicago metro area, Rockford, and Metro East. The four-bedroom homes will be owned by IFF, and leased to service providers selected and monitored by the state.
